MOON OVER THE GABLES

Thursday, March 9th   |  Ponce Circle Park, Coral Gables, FL

On Thursday, March 9th, the Torre Companies team joined the Coral Gables Community Foundation and the City of Coral Gables for Opening Night of Moon Over the Gables, a presentation of UK artist Luke Jerram’s “Museum of the Moon,” a 23ft in diameter moon sculpture with 120 dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. The Museum of the Moon is a traveling art installation and has visited countries around the world, including London, Tokyo, Toronto, and Dubai. Having come from Phoenix, Arizona before landing in Ponce Circle Park in Coral Gables, the Museum of the Moon was on display from March 9th through 25th on Thursdays through Saturdays.

Complimented by the picturesque backdrop of the new Loews Hotel at The Plaza, Moon Over the Gables will feature a series of lunar inspired programming and entertainment organized by the Coral Gables Community Foundation. Moon Over the Gables brings engaging activities for families and individuals of all ages and highlights the immersive artistic culture of The City Beautiful. Opening night brought a lively and soulful musical experience with a live performance by Los Wizzards, a local South Florida band, and the weekend was jam packed with a showing of E.T: The Extra Terrestrial hosted by the city’s Community Recreation department on Friday, March 10th, followed by dance performances by the Miami Royal Ballet and the Sanctuary of the Arts on Saturday, March 11th. Following weekends included performances by the American Music Ensemble from the Frost School of Music, bagpipes on St. Patrick’s Day, a drum circle, and a closing night concert with Mama Fuma.

Inspired by the artistic brilliance of Moon Over the Gables, the team at Torre Companies sponsored and created the Torre Art Wall, an immersive artistic experience for children and families who visit the public art installation. To create a unique activation with Moon Over the Gables, Torre Companies converted the side of an on-site storage pod into a decorative chalk board wall and provided chalk for children and individuals to demonstrate their best art skills. A set of blacklight UV lights on top of the pod create a stellar glow in the dark perspective and inspire young artists to distinctly express themselves. Built by Torre, the Torre Art Wall reflects the creativity of youth and a representation of the Torre passion for arts and culture. It parallels with the Torre values for providing the Coral Gables community with a never-ending creative outlet. Having featured individual representations of astronauts, E.T., and inspirational phrases drawn by children, families, and individuals, the Torre Art Wall navigates the emotional connection with the Moon Over the Gables by blending the experience with a tangible outlet for artistic skill and creativity.
